The most useful thing a safety science firm can do for the environment is make sure environmental claims are true.
Keeping green claims honest
"Reef-safe", "marine-safe" and "biodegradable" are among the most abused claims in cosmetics, and regulators are increasingly intolerant of those that cannot be backed. Our laboratories run aquatic ecotoxicity and biodegradability testing, including coral and marine-algae ecotoxicity and OECD ready and marine biodegradability methods, so a brand making an environmental claim can substantiate it rather than guess. Helping brands tell the truth about their environmental impact is the contribution we are best placed to make.
Considered operations
We aim to do the right test once rather than the wrong tests repeatedly: careful method selection avoids unnecessary laboratory work, and a largely digital, document-led way of working keeps the overhead of compliance low. Where a study can answer a question without it, we avoid animal testing, in line with the prohibitions that already govern cosmetics in the UK and EU.
